The Absorbine sponsored Jo Bates - 2015 Season

With the showing season underway, Absorbine went to catch up with sponsored rider Jo Bates. We had a very warm welcome from Jo, daughter Holly and Tilly the dog. Tilly was excited to see that we had bought along a few things for her too, our new ShowSheen Dog care products, and posed delightfully for a photo.  We were very excited to see Holly back full time on the yard after breaking her leg last November.

Following a successful season in 2014, Jo and Holly are looking forward to an exciting time in 2015. The team will be producing some new young prospects alongside some old favorites including Daldorn Lara’s Theme and Holly’s advanced medium dressage horse, Cambridge.

Nine year old mare, Buriana Cashel, also known as Milly, is back with the team in Banbury. Jo tells us “She has previously done exceptionally well, taking numerous championships including NPS and the Royal Cornwall. Now she is back with the team in Banbury to do more Intermediate classes this season.

Jo and Volatis Oriana

New on the yard is seven year old Volatis Oriana, also known as Nana, a beautiful coloured mare owned by Lucy Bridgewater. Jo told us, “I am excited about Nana and am looking forward to getting her out.” Nana recently took second in her class at the British Show Pony Winter Champs with Jo, who said “It was a huge HOYS qualifier at BSPS Winter Champs. I am thrilled with her performance!”

Jessica William’s Dowhills Snow Patrol, also known as Teddy, is also continuing his showing career with the team in Banbury. Teddy recently won his class and qualified for RI at South of England Spring Show.

Lady Benton Jones’, Daldorn Lara's Theme is returning to Jo for the 2015 season. 2014 was a brilliant year for Lara, including taking reserve Champion Riding Horse at Royal International Horse Show. This year Jo will continue her career in Large Riding Horse classes.

Ali Fernyhough’s five year old, Dorando, has also joined the team at Banbury. Last year he was placed at the National Dressage Championships in the 4 year old Young Horse Class. Jo tells us “He had only just been sat on but showed to have great potential” This year he is returning to contest Young Horse classes.

Lowmoor Arctic Venture

Anne Drabble’s, six year old heavyweight hunter, Lowmoor Arctic Venture has come to Jo this season.  Lowmoor Arctic Venture, also known as Vinnie, will compete in heavyweight hunter classes and has already secured his ticket for The Royal International Horse Show (RI). Jo explains “He is a big, sensitive horse and I really like him.  Anne bought Lowmoor Vinnie as a foal from the Lowmoor Stud, he is by Makanaky out of Lowmoor Harriet and has been successful in-hand”

Jo and Sinnbad

An exciting addition to the yard is Sinnbad, a 10 year old ex-racehorse, owned by Serena Leckie.  He has previously evented and competed in dressage with Serena. Jo said “He has only just arrived with us, and is in the process of having an Absorbine makeover and being schooled. We will start taking him out in May and see how he goes with the aim of taking him to Windsor.”

Holly is very excited about dressage horse, Cambridge. Last year Holly took him to regionals and Nationals where he did extremely well. He has had a few months off when Holly broke her leg, but are both raring to go again. Holly’s goal is to qualify him for medium and advanced medium dressage this season.
